As part of its annual Environment Health and Safety Week Celebrations, Orange SL on Monday 2nd May 2023, commenced a weeklong activity to mark this year’s EHS Week on the Theme: “Taking Sustainable Steps to Reduce our Carbon Footprint”.
CEO Sekou Amadu Bah said, Orange’s commitment towards reducing our carbon emissions is in alignment with the Group’s strategy to lead the future which prioritizes environmental responsibility with the aim of protecting and preserving our environment for future generation.
He further noted that “as individuals and as a company, we have a responsibility to protect the environment. We believe that everyone has a role to play in reducing the impact of our daily activities on the planet. It's important to recognize the crucial role that the environment plays as it affects our businesses, customers, employees, and communities. “Nature will be better without Human, Humans need nature. Nature does not need us. The whole world would be green if we did not exist. Nature exists to make our lives better” He concluded.
The EHS week kicked off with a Morning Coffee session for employees to elaborate the goal of the EHS week and our collective responsibility on environmental protection and the need to reduce our carbon emissions.
Other activities outlined to commemorate this year’s EHS celebration includes site inspections by the Executive Chairman of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Dr Gbondi Gavao and EHS Day Symposium with the Honourable Minister of Environment Professor Foday Jaward serving as our Keynote Speaker.
The weeklong activities culminated with OSL employees planting of 3,000 trees at the mud slide site at Mortomeh, led by the CEO Sekou Amadou Bah, in partnership with youth Alliance and Commonwealth Games Association.
Orange Social Venture Prize International Grand Prize Winner for Sierra Leone, Joseph Koroma, on Wednesday 8th March launched his digital innovative project Lifeblood in collaboration with Orange SL, Ministry of Health and Sanitation and Concern Worldwide.
Joseph’s innovative project Lifeblood Sierra Leone is a digital health platform designed to address the problem of acute shortage of blood products in the country's health care delivery system.
This system is designed to help increase public awareness about safe blood services, increase the level of voluntary blood donation in the country with an improved facility to administer blood transfusion as well as National Safe Blood Service.
In attendance were senior government officials and medical professionals in the health sector. The program culminated with the unveiling of plaque and tour of the blood bank facility.

The Commonwealth Game Changer's programme with this year's theme: "The Power of Sport to Mobilise and Raise Awareness For Our Environment" was officially launched on Thursday by the Honorable Minister of Environment, Professor Foday Jaward, followed with a three day cleaning exercise at the beach.

As part of its corporate commitment during the Ramadan period, Orange SL on Monday 3rd April commenced its usual Ramadan Iftar Donation to mosques across the country starting with Masjid Rahim at Gbanbayilla and Ilmo Zikre at Hill station respectively. Food items worth thousands of Leones comprises of bags of rice, flour, milk, sugar, oil amongst other things were generously presented to the Chief Imams of these mosques.
As part of its commitment towards the government’s Free Quality Education agenda, Orange SL through its Foundation, yesterday officially turned the Sod for the construction of an Ultramodern Early Childhood Development Center in Sarguehun Town Pujehun District Southern SL, under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio and other senior government officials. The four classroom well furnished and beautifully designed to meet the admiration of infant children will host about 84 pupils ranging from ages 2- 4 years.
The event was well attended by senior government officials, Directors and senior staff of Orange SL, leaders and stakeholders of the community and neighboring villages.
