Orange Middle East and Africa Launch Its New Strategic Plan Trust the Future

Orange Middle East and Africa Launch Its New Strategic Plan Trust the Future

April 2026

Across Africa and the Middle East regions characterized by rapid population growth and accelerating digital adoption, Orange is emerging as a pivotal force behind inclusive development. By expanding access to connectivity, financial services, and sustainable energy, the company is enabling millions to participate more fully in the digital economy.

A Strategic Vision for Sustainable Growth

Operating in over 15 countries, Orange Africa and the Middle East serve more than 150 million customers, a number expected to grow as mobile usage deepens. In 2025, the region generated approximately €8 billion in revenue, reinforcing its role as a vital growth engine for the Orange Group.

Central to this momentum is Orange’s new strategic plan 2026 - 2030, “Trust the Future,” which underscores the company’s commitment to building long-term trust with customers and partners while delivering reliable, secure, and inclusive services at scale. The strategy is structured around three core ambitions:

Our Three Ambitions in Action

1. Customer Intimacy:
Leverage our strong brand to increase customer base, loyalty, and differentiation. We aim to deepen our relationships with customers by providing reliable, secure, and inclusive services that meet their evolving needs.

2. Innovative Growth:
Capture opportunities in B2C and B2B markets and manage our unique infrastructure assets for value. This involves expanding connectivity through extensive 4G and 5G networks, investing in infrastructure, and developing digital ecosystems like Orange Money and Max it to foster financial inclusion and digital empowerment.

3. Excellence at Scale:
Strengthen operational excellence and leverage scale for efficiency. We focus on infrastructure investments, sustainable energy solutions, and training programs to support human development, ensuring long-term, sustainable growth across the region.

Connectivity as a Catalyst for Development

Connectivity remains the foundation of Orange’s impact. The company has achieved extensive 4G coverage across all markets, with 5G services operational in seven African countries and additional rollouts underway. Nearly 100 million customers now use Orange’s 4G network, reflecting a significant shift toward data-driven digital lifestyles.

This expansion is supported by substantial infrastructure investments. Large-scale backbone projects, including cross-border fiber networks spanning thousands of kilometers, are strengthening regional resilience and enabling faster, more affordable connectivity for businesses, governments, and individuals. Orange invests over €1 billion annually in network infrastructure, data Centers, and international connectivity, demonstrating a sustained commitment to regional development.

Financial Inclusion and Digital Ecosystems

Beyond connectivity, Orange is transforming financial inclusion through its flagship service, Orange Money, which now boasts 47 million active users. In many markets, it has become an essential financial lifeline, allowing individuals and small businesses to send and receive money, pay bills, and conduct transactions without traditional banking access. With digital payments on the rise, the platform is projected to surpass 60 million users in the coming years.

Complementing this ecosystem is Max it, Orange’s all-in-one digital super app that integrates telecom services, payments, and everyday digital tools. With over 20 million active users across 16 countries, Max it simplifies access to essential services, especially in markets where smartphones are the primary gateway to the digital economy.

Empowering Youth and Supporting Entrepreneurship

Human development is at the heart of Orange’s “Trust the Future” strategy. Since 2019, the company has trained approximately 1.4 million young people through a network of 50 Orange Digital Centers and partnerships with 167 universities across Africa and the Middle East. These initiatives provide digital skills training, entrepreneurship support, and startup acceleration. To date, more than 450 startups have been supported, and around 40% of Orange’s regional workforce has participated in social impact programs.

With one of the youngest populations in the world, demand for digital skills continues to outpace supply. Orange aims to support over three million young people by the end of the decade as its programs expand further.

Extending Impact Beyond Telecommunications

Orange is also committed to extending its impact through Orange Energies, delivering clean, mobile-enabled energy solutions to households and small businesses, particularly in underserved communities. Sustainability remains a guiding principle: over 30% of Orange’s network sites in the region are now powered by solar energy, with this share expected to grow steadily in line with the company’s environmental commitments.

A Long-Term Partner for Transformation

In Morocco, where Orange has operated for over 20 years, the company serves nearly 20 million customers and continues to position the country as a strategic digital hub. Ongoing investments in infrastructure and data Centers are strengthening both national connectivity and regional capabilities.

As Africa and the Middle East evolve, Orange believes that trust will be its most valuable differentiator. Through the “Trust the Future” strategy, the company is not only expanding networks and services but also reinforcing its role as a long-term partner in economic and social transformation. Orange Sierra Leone plays a vital role in advancing the “Trust the Future” strategy within the region. By expanding digital infrastructure, promoting financial inclusion through Orange Money, and supporting youth empowerment initiatives, Orange Sierra Leone can contribute significantly to the company’s overarching goals.

For millions of users, technology remains invisible, what truly matters is that connections are reliable, transactions seamless, and energy accessible. At scale, these everyday experiences are shaping a more connected, resilient, and inclusive future.

Orange is committed to people, society, and the environment, driving digital, financial, and energy inclusion across Africa and the Middle East, and empowering communities to thrive in the digital age.

Together We Eat: Sharing Love, Faith, and Responsibility This Easter

April 7th 2026

At Orange Sierra Leone, community is more than a value it is a responsibility we proudly uphold, especially during moments of faith, reflection, and togetherness. This Easter season, we reaffirmed that commitment by standing with Christian communities across the country in the true spirit of love, compassion, and shared responsibility.

On Good Friday, 3rd April 2026, Orange Sierra Leone donated food to support communal fellowship and celebration at several churches in Freetown and Makeni. Beneficiary locations included Jordan W.A.M Church, Murray Town; Holy Trinity Church, Kissy Road; St. Luke’s Church, Wilberforce; and Holy Trinity Church in Makeni. These donations enabled congregations to come together, share meals, and celebrate the significance of Good Friday in an atmosphere of unity and gratitude.

The initiative, themed “Together We Eat,” was driven by a heartfelt purpose: to spread love within the Christian community and support the tradition of sharing and reflection that defines the Easter season. By contributing to shared meals, Orange Sierra Leone helped reinforce the values of generosity, compassion, mutual care, and values that are deeply aligned with our corporate ethos.

Beyond the food donations, the experience itself was profoundly meaningful. Gathering with communities, sharing conversations, and witnessing the joy and appreciation among beneficiaries served as a powerful reminder of why we exist as a company. These moments reflect our belief that true impact goes beyond business; it is created when we stand with people during the moments that matter most in their lives.

For Orange Sierra Leone, Easter is not only a celebration of faith, but also an opportunity to renew our promise to the communities we serve. The smiles, gratitude, and shared laughter experienced during these moments reaffirm that community remains at the heart of our mandate.

As we reflect on this blessed season, we are grateful for the opportunity to give, to share, and to strengthen the bonds that connect us. Together, we continue to build communities rooted in love, responsibility, and solidarity.

By Foday Moriba Conteh

        27 March 2026

In a move aimed at expanding digital financial access and strengthening participation in the global digital economy, Orange Money, in partnership with Zenith Bank Sierra Leone and Mastercard, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, officially launched the Orange Money Mastercard. The launch ceremony took place at the Atlantic Hotel in Freetown and attracted government officials, Members of Parliament, regulators, financial sector leaders, and stakeholders within the digital payments ecosystem.

Speaking at the launch, David Mansaray, Chief Executive Officer of Orange Money Sierra Leone, described the introduction of the Orange Money Mastercard as a landmark achievement and the first virtual companion card of its kind in the country.

According to him, the initiative reflects the shared commitment of the partners to deepen financial inclusion and accelerate Sierra Leone’s transition toward a digitally enabled economy.

He explained that the new Mastercard allows customers to make secure online payments, subscribe to international digital services, and manage financial transactions directly from their mobile wallets.

“For many Sierra Leoneans, the challenge has never been ambitioned but access,” Mansaray stated. “Many people want to shop online or subscribe to global platforms but lack debit cards or access to digital payment tools. This solution removes those barriers and enables customers to transact globally with ease.”

He disclosed that the development of the service took nearly a year of collaboration among multiple partners and technical teams, underscoring the importance of strong teamwork and innovation in bringing the project to fruition.

Mansaray further noted that the service enables customers to shop online, pay bills, and subscribe to international platforms without relying on third parties. He described the initiative as a transformative step toward simplifying access to digital financial tools and empowering citizens to participate confidently in the global digital economy.

Also speaking at the event, Ugochukwu Irechukwu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Sierra Leone, described the launch as a major milestone in Sierra Leone’s digital finance journey.

He noted that reliable digital payment systems are essential not only for convenience but also for economic growth and opportunity.

According to him, individuals benefit from safer ways to save, spend, and transfer funds, while businesses—particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs)—benefit from faster payments, improved cash flow, and reduced reliance on cash transactions.

Irechukwu highlighted that SMEs, which form the backbone of Sierra Leone’s economy, will benefit significantly from easier access to electronic payment systems. He said such systems enable businesses to expand their customer base, reduce risks associated with carrying cash, and improve financial efficiency.

He further emphasized that the initiative marks the foundation for future digital payment innovations, including expanded merchant acceptance and stronger payment infrastructure nationwide.

Bossman Kwapong, Country Manager for Mastercard covering Sierra Leone, Ghana, Liberia, and The Gambia, noted that the rollout of the Orange Money Mastercard reflects strong collaboration among partners and demonstrates Sierra Leone’s growing role in regional digital financial innovation.

He explained that the service represents one of the first infrastructures of its kind within Mastercard’s operations across English-speaking West Africa, positioning Sierra Leone as a leader in digital finance development.

Kwapong highlighted the country’s youthful population and increasing mobile penetration as strong drivers for digital financial expansion. He said the new platform opens opportunities for additional payment innovations, including QR payment systems, click-to-pay services, and pay-by-link technologies.

He expressed optimism that the initiative would pave the way for further partnerships and expanded financial connectivity across the region.

Didi Makhubela, Senior Account Executive for Sub-Saharan Africa at Paymentology, emphasized the importance of technology and collaboration in ensuring the success of the initiative.

She explained that Paymentology serves as the processing engine behind the Orange Money Mastercard, ensuring seamless transaction processing and reliable service delivery.

According to her, the partnership between Paymentology and Orange Money dates to 2018, reflecting long-standing collaboration built on trust and shared innovation goals.

Makhubela noted that the solution was designed specifically to meet the unique payment needs of Sierra Leoneans rather than replicating models from other markets.

She added that digital payment solutions improve everyday life by enabling faster transactions, supporting business operations, and enhancing financial convenience.

Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone, Aïcha Touré, described the launch as a reflection of the company’s commitment to ensuring financial services are accessible to all citizens.

She noted that Orange Money has significantly transformed financial transactions in Sierra Leone but acknowledged that many customers have historically faced barriers to accessing global digital services.

According to her, the new Mastercard addresses those barriers by enabling customers—especially young people, entrepreneurs, and travelers—to participate more effectively in the global digital economy.

Touré described the virtual companion card as more than a technological innovation, calling it a bridge that connects customers to global markets in a secure and convenient manner.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to financial inclusion and innovation,” she said, adding that the company envisions a future where every Sierra Leonean has the tools required to thrive in the digital economy.

She commended partners including Zenith Bank Sierra Leone, Mastercard, and Paymentology for their collaboration and dedication to delivering the solution.

Director General of the National Communications Authority, Amara Brewah, described the launch as a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s digital transformation journey.

He stated that the introduction of the Orange Money Mastercard aligns with government priorities, particularly within the technology and infrastructure sectors.

Brewah emphasized that collaboration among institutions is critical to driving digital innovation, noting that no single organization can achieve transformation independently.

He further highlighted that digital payment solutions extend beyond convenience by supporting e-commerce growth, empowering small businesses, and connecting Sierra Leoneans to global markets.

He assured stakeholders that regulators remain committed to promoting digital access, strengthening security standards, and ensuring the reliability of digital financial platforms.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Ibrahim Stevens, Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, described the launch as a significant step toward building a modern and inclusive financial ecosystem.

He noted that linking mobile wallets to global payment networks demonstrates the growing maturity of Sierra Leone’s financial system and reflects a broader shift toward integrated digital financial services.

According to the Governor, the Orange Money Mastercard enables users to perform international payments, point-of-sale transactions, ATM withdrawals, and online purchases both locally and internationally.

He explained that such capabilities empower individuals and businesses to participate more actively in the global economy.

Dr. Stevens also highlighted the importance of digital financial solutions in strengthening economic resilience, particularly during periods of global uncertainty.

He stressed that innovation must be accompanied by strong regulatory oversight, emphasizing the need for compliance with anti-money laundering regulations, consumer protection standards, and data security requirements.

He concluded that the launch represents more than a product introduction, describing it as a signal of Sierra Leone’s readiness to embrace digital financial innovation and strengthen its position within the regional financial ecosystem.

The launch of the Orange Money Mastercard represents a significant advancement in Sierra Leone’s financial sector, bringing together financial institutions, technology providers, and regulators to support the country’s digital transformation.

Orange Sierra Leone Strengthens Community Bonds with Nationwide Jamah Sunakati Initiative During Ramadan

As the holy month of Ramadan continues to inspire acts of compassion, reflection, and unity, Orange Sierra Leone has reinforced its commitment to community engagement through a nationwide Jamah Sunakati (Iftar) initiative, bringing people together across Freetown and key provincial cities.

Ramadan, a sacred period observed by Muslims worldwide, is marked by fasting, prayer, charity, and a deep sense of spiritual renewal. It is also a time that emphasizes generosity, empathy, and togetherness values that resonate strongly within Sierra Leone’s diverse and closely knit society.

In this spirit, Orange Sierra Leone organized a series of Iftar gatherings at the Goderich Central Mosque and Comfortee School in Calaba Town, Freetown. The initiative was also extended to regional communities including Bo, Lunsar, Kabala, and Kono, ensuring that the message of unity and shared humanity reached across the country.

The events brought together community members, religious leaders, youth groups, and Orange Sierra Leone representatives in an atmosphere defined by warmth, gratitude, and mutual respect. As the call to prayer signalled the breaking of the fast, Muslims and Christians alike sat side by side to share meals an enduring reflection of Sierra Leone’s longstanding tradition of interfaith harmony.

Beyond the symbolic act of breaking the fast, the initiative embodied the deeper meaning of Ramadan serving others and strengthening bonds within communities. A notable highlight was the active involvement of Orange Sierra Leone’s leadership, including the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and staff members. Employees worked alongside local volunteers to prepare and serve meals, demonstrating a hands-on approach to community service that went beyond corporate responsibility.

For many attendees, the gesture carried profound significance.

“This gesture from Orange Sierra Leone means more than just a meal; it shows true partnership with the community. During Ramadan, such acts remind us that we are not alone—we are supported and valued,” said Alhaji Mohamed Jalloh, an elder at the Goderich Central Mosque.

Ramadan is a time of reflection, sacrifice, and unity. Seeing a company like Orange Sierra Leone join us, serve alongside us, and share in this sacred moment strengthens our belief in the power of togetherness. We are deeply grateful.”

The Jamah Sunakati initiative highlights Orange Sierra Leone’s broader commitment to social cohesion and community development. Orange Foundation and UBA Foundation Partner to Rehabilitate York PHU Maternity Ward

Orange Foundation and UBA Foundation Partner to Rehabilitate York PHU Maternity Ward

By Foday Moriba Conteh

Orange Foundation Sierra Leone and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Foundation on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to rehabilitate the maternity ward of the York Peripheral Health Unit (PHU), as part of efforts to reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths and improve access to quality healthcare.

The signing ceremony took place at the Orange Foundation Office in Hill Station, Freetown.

Director of Orange Foundation Sierra Leone, Ms. Annie Wonnie-Katta, described the partnership as a major milestone in strengthening maternal healthcare, noting that it builds on community-based interventions launched by the foundation in 2019. She said the MoU reflects a shared commitment to providing safe, dignified, and quality health services for women and newborns.

Country Director of Mama Pikin Foundation, Ms. Leeann Rizk, said the initiative would have a transformative impact on families, highlighting ongoing challenges faced by pregnant women. She noted that the delivery bucket and transport support programme costing about $10 per mother has supported over 20,000 women to opt for safe, facility-based deliveries. She also highlighted the Belleh Uman Bato Group (BBG) initiative, launched in 2023, which provides health education, emotional support, and community engagement, helping to rebuild trust in health facilities.

Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone, Ms. Aicha Toure, said the partnership aligns with Orange Foundation’s long-standing commitment to maternal health, citing improvements in maternal mortality rates and increased safe deliveries supported by the project. She explained that the rehabilitation of the York PHU followed a 2025 assessment that identified key infrastructure gaps.

Managing Director of UBA Sierra Leone, Mr. Mohamed Alhajie Samoura, said the rehabilitation would include upgrades to maternity and postnatal wards, roofing, tiling, painting, and the provision of essential medical equipment, including oxygen resuscitation machines. He emphasized the role of the private sector in supporting sustainable development.

Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, commended both foundations, noting Sierra Leone’s significant progress in reducing maternal mortality. He called for stronger public-private partnerships to achieve zero preventable maternal and child deaths and assured that the Ministry would provide the necessary personnel and technical support to ensure quality services at the York PHU.

The rehabilitation is expected to commence soon and is anticipated to significantly improve maternal healthcare delivery in the York community.

Orange certify 70 students

Orange Foundation Sierra Leone and National Youth Commission Certify 70 Young Women, Accelerating Sierra Leone’s Digital Transformation.

Seventy young women have been certified as digital professionals under the Orange Foundation Women’s Digital Centre programme on Friday, 11 February 2026, at the Orange Digital Centre in Freetown.

This event marked a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s drive to close the gender gap in technology and strengthen its digital economy.

The graduation ceremony brought together senior government officials, corporate leaders, development partners, and families to celebrate the fifth cohort of the six‑month initiative.

In her remarks, the Director of Orange Foundation, Mrs. Annie Wonnie Katta, stated that since the launch of the programme in 2021, Orange Foundation has trained more than 700 women across Freetown, Bo, and Kenema, with over 600 graduates now entering the workforce equipped with practical digital and entrepreneurship skills.

She added that participants completed intensive training in computer applications, internet fundamentals, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, business management, and online brand development.

She further noted that the recent advanced cohorts have also received training in web development, 3D design, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

Orange Sierra Leone CEO, Aicha Toure, underscored the urgency of expanding digital inclusion, noting that only 5.7 percent of women in Sierra Leone are online compared to 11.4 percent of men. She described the graduates as proof that targeted investment in women’s digital skills can drive inclusive economic growth and position women as creators, not just consumers, of technology.

Minister of Youth, Ibrahim Sannoh, reaffirmed government support for the initiative and announced plans to pursue formal accreditation of the programme through the National Council for Technical, Vocational and Academic Awards. He also challenged graduates to launch digital enterprises, pledging ministerial recognition for early‑stage innovators.

National Youth Commission Commissioner, Joseph Maada Lahai, emphasized that the programme aligns with the country’s Mid‑Term National Development Plan, which prioritizes technology and human capital development. He committed to supporting graduates through mentorship, internships, market access, and financing pathways.

Education officials highlighted broader policy reforms, including the establishment of technical universities offering Bachelor of Science degrees in technical fields, the development of a national cybersecurity curriculum, and the introduction of Sierra Leone’s first micro‑credential framework to formally recognize short‑course certifications.

Graduates and alumni shared testimonials of personal transformation, citing improved employability, income generation, and community impact.

Student representative Judith Ansu described the Digital Centre as “a gateway for ambition, confidence, and leadership,” reinforcing the programme’s role in advancing gender equality and national development.

As Orange Foundation and government partners deepen collaboration, the Women’s Digital Centre initiative stands as a scalable model for bridging the gender digital divide and building a more inclusive, innovation‑driven future for Sierra Leone.
